Center for STEM Education and Career Development

Kamin Science Center launched its Center for STEM Education and Career Development to ensure the upcoming generation understands the basics of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

By supporting what you’re teaching, our curriculum-aligned programming encourages students to let curiosity drive them, think critically, use teamwork, and creatively express their ideas. From school assemblies and field trips to career exploration programs and educator training workshops, we’re here to prepare the next generation of problem solvers, creative thinkers, and trailblazers for an ever-changing world.

What We Aim to Do:

Total collaboration that brings together all stakeholders to focus on STEM education in our region with a multifaceted approach that addresses student programming, teacher training, business and industry needs, and government initiatives.

Great teaching that enhances STEM teaching from pre-K to grade 12 by developing skilled, inspired teachers through partnerships that promote research-based practices like inquiry-based instruction, integrated curriculum, and project-based learning.

Sparking student interest in STEM by providing hands-on experiences and interactions with STEM professionals to boost school success and postsecondary opportunities, especially for females and students of color.

Providing a committed community that fosters a lasting commitment to improving STEM education through innovation, collaboration, and data-driven strategies by engaging business leaders, government, educators, parents, and community stakeholders.

Our Goals:

To provide experiences for schools and the public that promote interest and participation in regional growth areas: biotechnology, information technology, robotics, advanced materials processes, energy and the environment, and nanotechnology.

Educator Programs

PNC Grow Up Great with Science

Through a unique partnership with more than 150 regional preschool classrooms and PNC Grow Up Great with Science, Kamin Science Center has created comprehensive, teacher-tested STEM resources for early-learner educators. The Science Center has provided professional development and classroom resources to early-learner educators in Allegheny, Westmoreland, and Indiana Counties, as well as developed and delivered engaging family night events.

Based on the success of these programs, Kamin Science Center is engaged by the West Virginia Department of Education, with funding from the Benedum Foundation, to support its universal pre-K education programming.
