FAQs

Frequently Asked Field Trip Questions

Do I need a reservation to receive the group rates?

Yes. The only way to receive the group rates is to call in advance and make a reservation. We recommend calling at least two weeks before your visit date. Groups who show up without a reservation will have to pay General Admission rates.

Can I reserve my field trip online?

Reservations are not available online, but feel free to complete our group reservations form opens in a new window to start the process. A team member will respond as soon as possible.

How many chaperones do I need?

Pre-K-Grade 1: 1 adult per 5 students
Grades 2–12: 1 adult per 10 students

Is there a dress code?

Kamin Science Center features activities and exhibits that involve some physical participation. We recommend wearing comfortable, casual clothing and sensible shoes. Wear some form of ID tag in the form of a sticker, label, T-shirt, or lanyard that identifies the name of your group.

Can Membership cards be used for group visits?

Membership cards do not apply to group visits due to group discount rates. Members attending with a group will be charged the group rate to ensure participation in all reserved programs.

Can a lunch time be selected?

No, lunch times are not available in advance. All lunches for all groups are scheduled and assigned on the day of the visit. Our Group Services staff will provide your lunch time during your orientation.

Payment Questions

Purchase orders (POs) are not accepted.

Full payment is expected in one lump sum at check-in. Payments from individual students, parents, or families will not be accepted. The Science Center accepts cash (large bills preferred), a single check payable to Carnegie Institute, or major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, or American Express). Advance payment can be made over the phone by credit card.

Groups who do not provide full payment at check-in will be charged an administrative fee of $15 for invoicing.

If your group falls below 15, you will be charged for a minimum of 15 people.

Carnegie Museums Memberships, coupons, or other discounts may not be used for or in conjunction with group visits.

The balance due for group visits is due on the day of the visit. Payment must be submitted in full and cannot be billed separately.

We cannot send invoices for group visits; however, your visit contract contains all the information that you should need to request payment from your finance office.

If you have a premade check but your attendance has decreased (not below the minimum of 15 people), a refund can be provided through the cashier or a check may be sent to you. Allow 6-8 weeks for processing.
