The Pittsburgh Regional Science and Engineering Fair has been a regional tradition since 1940. It is the third oldest science fair in the United States under the affiliation of the Society for Science 
which runs the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) and the Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge middle school competition.
The Pittsburgh Regional Science & Engineering Fair (PRSEF) is open to all students in Grades 6-12 from the 20 counties within Western Pennsylvania and Garrett County, Md.
The 2026 early bird registration fee to participate in PRSEF is $25 per project if paid by December 1, 2025. After this date, the registration fee is $50 per project (individual and teams). Financial requests will be considered when submitted on school/organization letterhead. Requests should contain all details on financial need, including free/reduced lunch percentage of students.
