Before You Go

Purchase your museum tickets in advance for convenient entry.

The Science Center is closed Tuesdays from Labor Day through Memorial Day with the exception of the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, and the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day.

Closures may also occur due to major events at Acrisure Stadium. Click here for more detailed closure information.

USS Requin (SS 481) submarine is open 10:20 a.m.–4:20 p.m. (weather and river conditions permitting).

Rangos Giant Cinema Tickets

Rangos Giant Cinema is open Thursday through Sunday, with showtimes between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. (excluding special features and events). Get ready for an immersive, next-level movie experience at Rangos Giant Cinema, the most advanced theater in the region! Prepare to be wowed by ultra-sharp, vibrant images and incredible surround sound, all on the largest screen in Pittsburgh. It’s movie magic like you’ve never seen—or heard—before! Please note: Tickets are sold up to four weeks in advance.

Laser Show Tickets

Get ready to be dazzled by brilliant colors and epic tunes at the Buhl Planetarium! Each day, our talented laserists choreograph mind-blowing, full-dome laser shows synced to your favorite music. It’s a stunning sight-and-sound spectacle you won’t want to miss!

Please note: Tickets are sold up to four weeks in advance.

E-Gift Cards

Purchase an e-gift card online and you will receive an email with a barcode. Print out the barcode or save it on your phone.

The gift cards can be used at all four Carnegie Museums for the purchase of admissions, camps, classes, ticketed events, store items, and memberships. Gift cards can hold a minimum of $10 and a maximum of $500. Enter a value at checkout.

Gift cards may not be used for food service, parking, or online XPLOR Store or Membership purchases. They can be used for purchases on-site in the XPLOR Store or to purchase Memberships at the Science Center Ticket Counter.

Our Ticket Options

Secure your tickets online before you arrive. There is no surcharge for online ticket purchases. On-site ticketing is available in the main building.

General Admission: Explore all five floors of the museum, live demonstrations, USS Requin (SS 481) submarine, and Buhl Planetarium astronomy shows. Special traveling exhibits may require a separate ticket.

USS Requin: Included with General Admission on a first-come, first-served basis, and subject to availability. Weather and river conditions permitting. Tours operate at 20-minute intervals with a limited capacity. Timed tickets are required and can be obtained on the day of your visit at USS Requin Gateway on the Ground Floor. Full mobility is required for this experience.

Rangos Giant Cinema: Separate tickets are required for movies. A General Admission ticket is not required for visitors only watching a movie. Click here for current showings. Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the show, as every show begins promptly at the start time.

Laser Shows in the Buhl Planetarium: Separate tickets are required for laser shows. A General Admission ticket is not required for visitors only watching a laser show. Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the show, as every show begins promptly at the start time. Filming and live streaming of laser shows is prohibited.

Tickets are sold up to four weeks in advance. To inquire about dates further out, please call 412.237.3400 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. If your preferred time slot is sold out online, a limited number of tickets may still be available at the on-site Ticket Counter on a first-come, first-served basis.
