Carnegie Museums, including Kamin Science Center, welcomes all visitors.

We work to assist visitors with disabilities in obtaining reasonable and appropriate accommodations, and in supporting equal access to our websites, services, programs, and activities.

Requests for accommodations should be made at least two weeks prior to your visit.

Wheelchairs for Visitors with Limited Mobility

Nonmotorized wheelchairs and portable stools are available to use at no cost on a first-come, first-served basis. 

Motorized wheelchairs are available on a first-come, first-served basis for $25 per day, no reservations necessary.

Photo ID is required.

Below-deck visits on USS Requin (SS 481) submarine require full mobility. For visitors who are unable to access USS Requin tours, USS Requin Gateway offers a virtual tour on the TV monitor at the bottom of the stairs in the PPG SCIENCE PAVILION® (opposite the Rangos lobby), next to the scuba suit. 

Accessing the Building

Accessible parking spaces are located in the rear of the building. 

Once parked, you will see a large blue sign on the side of the main building directing you to the accessible entrance on the ground level of the main building, directly under the main building portico entrance. 

To request special disability accommodations, please contact the museum at least two weeks in advance of visiting or participating in special tours, classes/camps, and other activities.

Getting to USS Requin (SS 481) Submarine

Timed tickets can be obtained on the day of your visit at USS Requin Gateway (located on the Ground Floor) by showing your General Admission wristband. 

Full mobility is required for this experience.

Increasing Access to Admission

A personal care attendant (PCA) accompanying a visitor with a disability receives free General Admission during their visit. PCAs must identify themselves as a PCA at the 1st Floor Ticket Counter with the accompanied care recipient to receive free General Admission. Visitors with a PCA wishing to purchase tickets before their visit can call 412.237.3400.

PA ACCESS card holders, PA Medicaid recipients, and EBT card holders from any state are eligible for General Admission at $4 each for the cardholder and up to three additional people. 

Visitors must present their EBT card/ACCESS card/PA Medicaid card and matching photo ID at the 1st Floor Ticket Counter to receive the discount. 

Not valid with any other offer or group visit. Cardholder must be present.

For Visitors on the Autism Spectrum and/or with Sensory Sensitivity

Sensory backpacks (including a pair of noise-canceling headphones, gloves, sunglasses, fidget toys, and communication cards), weighted vests, blankets, and lap pads are available to borrow at no cost on a first-come, first-served basis. See a staff member at the 1st Floor Ticket Counter or in our theater spaces for availability.

During Sensory Sensitive Science Hours and Events, enjoy a self-guided visit including sensory-friendly demos and hands-on activities, with adjusted exhibit lights and sound effects throughout the museum.

A quiet room is available for use during Sensory Sensitive Hours.

For Visitors Who Are Blind or with Low Vision

Contact us at least two weeks in advance of your visit to see if sighted guides are available. Most of our exhibits are interactive, hands-on experiences. Please contact us at 412.237.3400 or Accessibilty@KaminScienceCenter.org to confirm availability.

For Visitors Who Are Deaf or Hard of Hearing

Contact us at least two weeks in advance of your visit to see if an American Sign Language interpreter is available. Closed captioning and assistive listening devices are available for most shows in the Rangos Giant Cinema. Please contact us at 412.237.3400 or Accessibilty@KaminScienceCenter.org to confirm availability.

Service Animals

Carnegie Museums allows service, guide, and support animals, in accordance with applicable law.

Carnegie Museums allows service, guide, and support animals, and animals in training to be service, guide, and/or support animals. The animal must always be under the control of its handler/user/trainer and be harnessed, leashed, or tethered, unless the individual’s disability prevents using these devices or these devices interfere with the animal’s safe, effective performance of its tasks.

Service animals are welcome at the Science Center. Service animals are defined as any dog that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability.
